Abril es el mes de la alerta sobre Infecciones de Transmisión sexual
April is STD Awareness Month.
STD Awareness Month is an annual observance to call attention to the impact of STDs and promote STD testing. This STD Awareness Month, we are focusing our outreach on healthcare providers, and their influence to promote sexual health and STD testing among young people.
Healthcare providers can make a difference by educating young patients about sexual health and STD prevention.

Adolescents
and young adults are particularly vulnerable to STDs. In fact, young
people between 15 and 24 years of age account for nearly half of all
STD cases. Primary care physicians, pediatricians, and other
healthcare providers play an important role in ensuring young people
receive comprehensive information and preventive care. Providers and
the information they share are respected by patients. Research shows
adolescent patients feel primary care settings are an appropriate place
to discuss sexual health and would like their providers to initiate
such discussions.
